- The PDP has said that Nigerians deserve an apology from the federal government over alleged deception about the whereabouts of the Chinese doctors
- The opposition party on its Twitter page gave the federal government only two days to do this
- Also, the PDP demands transparency from the Buhari-led government on the number of donations it has received from groups as the nation battles with coronavirus
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has come hard on the federal government over what it calls denials and cover-up on the whereabouts of the Chinese doctors.
The PDP alleged that the government took Nigerians for granted by saying it knew nothing about the whereabouts of the 15-member team of Chinese doctors who arrived in Nigeria in April on a mission to help the country with ways of curbing the spread of coronavirus.
The opposition party called on the federal government to tender an apology to all citizens within a time-frame of two days.
Moreover, the party asked the Buhari-led administration to be transparent about the many donations given to the government by international and local organisations to help the country deal with the economic effects of the disease.
On its official Twitter page, the PDP said: "The @OfficialPDPNig consequently demands that the Federal Government should immediately declare and account for, in detail, all funds, equipment, therapeutics and sundry aids it has received from international and...
"...indigenous bodies and individuals, given the exposed proclivities of its officials for diversion of such aids."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the federal government had stated that the Chinese were still in Nigeria on a mission to help the country build and equip isolation centres.
Speaking during the presidential task force briefing n Covid-19 on Tuesday, May 19, Rauf Aregbesola, minister of interior, said that the Chinese medics came to "Nigeria to share their experiences in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Aregbesola said the Chinese doctors are still in Nigeria on the bill of CCECC, a Chinese company working in Nigeria. He emphasised that they have been participating in equipping of various isolation centres in the country.
”Indeed 15 Chinese nationals came into Nigeria on April 8. From everything we have heard and said, they were here on the bill of CCECC, a Chinese company working in Nigeria, doing some work for us in several places," he said.
