Watford hit by coronavirus as 3 members test positive for infection

- Watford have been hit by the dreaded coronavirus

- Three members of the club tested positive for the infection on Monday

- The club announced that one player and two staff of the team have contracted the virus

English Premier League’s Watford have confirmed that three members of the club have tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus after tests were carried out.

The club which made the announcement on their website, although the individuals who contracted the infection were not named.

In a statement on the club’s website, Watford announced that one player and two members of the back room staff returned positive result after test were carried out.

The affected individuals will now proceed to a seven-day self-isolation in line with the Premier League guidelines in containing the pandemic.

“Watford Football Club confirms that three people have tested positive for the Covid-19 virus following testing at the training ground over the past 48 hours,” the statement said.

“Of those three positive tests, one is a player and two are members of staff. All three have asked that medical confidentiality be respected and, therefore, the club will not be naming those involved.

“All three will now self-isolate for seven days – in line with the protocols set out in Premier League guidelines – before being tested again at a later date.

“Strict adherence to the Premier League guidelines has ensured the training ground remains virus-free and a safe environment for the players to continue to work.

“The club will continue to liaise closely with the affected personnel and there will be no further comment.”

Premier League has been dealt a blow on Tuesday, May 19, after six positive coronavirus cases were recorded among three clubs.

This came as the top flight prepares for a resumption, which is currently slated for June. Reports from England indicate up to 748 staff and players were tested, with six of the tests coming out positive.

Names of the players and staff have not been made public.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Premier League giants Arsenal are reportedly planning to splash a sum of £22 million on Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Bonaventure.

The Nigerian football star has been linked with a move away from his Belgian club side Club Brugge this summer after three years at the club.

His manager Philippe Clement confirmed the 22-year-old may have spent his last season at the Jan Breydel Stadium having led them to their second league title in three years.
