All Progressive Congress (APC) has announced the timetable for its primaries ahead of the governorship poll in Ondo and Edo states,
The ruling party fixed Monday, June 22 and Monday, July 20 for its governorship primary elections in Edo and Ondo states respectively.
Legit.ng notes that the announcement trailed the decision by the electoral umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to stick with its initial plan amid coronavirus crisis.
Festus Okoye, chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), had on Tuesday, May 19, assured that there is no shift in the timetable for the election of the two states.
He said the body has reached an agreement on issues including the conduct of the Edo and Ondo governorship elections and other electoral priorities.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has also announced the timetable for its primary election ahead of Edo and Ondo election.
In a statement by the main opposition party on its Twitter page on Wednesday, May 20, PDP fixed Tuesday, June 23, for Edo primary election.
The part also fixed Wednesday, July 22 and Thursday, July 23, for Ondo gubernatorial primary.
In related news, Legit.ng reported that as intrigues continue to play out in the politics of Edo ahead of the state gubernatorial election, two groups on Monday, May 18, staged a protest in support and against Adams Oshiomhole, All Progressive Congress (APC) chairman.
The pro-Oshiomhole group, Edo State Coalition of Civil Society Organisations for Good Governance and Internal Democracy, was led by one Idiogbe Solomon.
Earlier, Legit.ng had reported that PDP has reacted to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) announcing the extension of eased COVID-19 lockdown measure and curfew in the country.
The opposition party in a series of tweets via its official Twitter handle on Monday, May 18, condemned what it called the assumption of presidential powers by the SGF to make such an announcement.
