22-year-old COVID-19 patient gives birth to twins at Lagos hospital

- A 22-year-old pregnant woman diagnosed with coronavirus has given birth to twins at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital

- According to Wasiu Adeyemo, the hospital’s chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, the mother gave birth through caesarean section

- The official says both mother and her twins are in good health

A 22-year-old pregnant woman diagnosed with COVID-19 has been delivered of twins at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

Vanguard reports that the disclosure was made by Wasiu Adeyemo, the hospital’s chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), who said the babies were delivered on Tuesday, May 19.

Legit.ng gathers that the twins, a boy and a girl, were delivered through cesarean section and they weigh 3.2kg and 3.25kg.

The statement by the CMAC read: “The mother and babies are doing well! Once again, celebrate our committed frontline staff for this achievement

“We also appreciate the support of the Federal government, Lagos State government and the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC."

Legit.ng previously reported that the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, successfully delivered a COVID-19 patient of a baby boy.

The 37-year-old woman was delivered of the baby via caesarean section on Saturday, May 9.

This was disclosed on Tuesday, May 12, by the chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee of LUTH, Wasiu Adeyemo.

Recall that LUTH had on April 27 successfully delivered a 40-year-old COVID-19 patient of a baby girl.

Adeyemo said: “A team of LUTH doctors, anaesthetists and nurses delivered another woman diagnosed with COVID-19 of a baby boy (birth weight: 2.6kg).

“The 37-year-old mother was delivered of the baby via caesarean section on Saturday, 9th May, 2020.

“Our gratitude goes to these gallant men and women and all warriors making d nation proud in d face of this scourge."

In other news, the World Health Organisation has released another list of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Africa, and South Africa is still topping the list as the country with the highest cases of the deadly disease.

Africa has 86,721 confirmed cases of the deadly disease and 2,721 patients succumbed to it while more than 33,000 people recovered.
