Explainer: Why FG warned COVID-19 survivors not to reveal treatment to anyone
Although some have expressed misgivings towards its position, the federal government has its sincere reasons for warning coronavirus survivors not to reveal treatment formula used by medical personnel at isolation centres.

In fact, some groups have gone as far as saying that this directive from the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 is rather suspicious at a time when there is a crying need all over the nation for transparency in all matters bordering on the disease.
Yet, it is imperative to make bare the facts especially when it comes to issues that directly affect the lives of everyone.
During a press briefing in Abuja on Saturday, May 16, the chairman of the PTF, Boss Mustapha, told those who have been discharged from isolation centres after attaining full recovery that revealing how they overcame the virus will encourage self-treatment which in itself is an avoidable risk.
Moreover, Mustapha pointed out that self-effort at treating the disease is the same as merely scratching the surface because many persons can be misled into dealing with only COVID-19 symptoms since they are similar to those of other sicknesses among which is malaria.

Concerning this, the PTF boss actually said: “The PTF congratulates and appreciates the testimonies of Nigerians who have recovered from COVID-19, which has given us more insights and further strengthens the need to adhere strictly to guidelines issued.
"...an emerging issue from all these testimonies is the issue of prescription for treatments.
"We should always remember that the symptoms of COVID-19 mimic some illnesses we already know but treating the symptoms is not the same as treating the virus. For this reason, we strongly discourage self-med'cation.”
The advice from the PTF was necessitated by the fact that certain survivors went about disclosing the kinds of pills administered to them while they were being treated.
Thus, instead of concluding that the PTF, an extension of the presidency, has something up its sleeve, it is beneficial and instructive to realise that this order was given with the common interest and safety of Nigerians at heart.
