The ongoing onslaught against insurgency on Sunday, May 17, recorded a groundbreaking boost as 20 Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists were successfully neutralised during a fierce operation near Baga community of Borno state.
A statement by the defence media operation signed by its coordinator, Major General John Enenche, disclosed that the operation was carried out by the troops of 130 Battalion with the support of Army Super Camp Baga.
The encounter saw men of the Nigerian Army cruised to a comfortable victory in style with a score of the terrorists who were heading to attack villages surrounding Baga killed.
"The criminals armed with mortars, rocket-propelled grenades and small arms were heading to attack villages surrounding Baga, when the troops attacked their convoy with overwhelming firepower killing 20 BHT/ISWAP criminals, captured 6 AK 47 Rifles, 520 rounds of 7.62mm special," part of the statement read.
Nigerian Army named items recovered as six AK 47 rifles, 520 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and five 36 hand grenades.
The force said it did not record any casualty but nine gallant soldiers were wounded in operation who were instantly evacuated from the gun scene to sector 3 hospital for treatment.
The chief of army staff, Lieutenant-General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, commended the soldiers for the patriotism and professionalism and also enjoined them to remain resolute on the mission to eradicate insurgency in the northeast.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the Air Component of ‘Operation Hadarin Daji’ has eliminated 27 bandits and destroyed some of their dwellings, along the Nahuta-Doumborou Corridor on the border between Katsina and Zamfara states.
The coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.
Enenche said the operation was executed on Thursday, following credible intelligence reports that revealed that notorious bandits were harboured in a cluster of huts in the area.
