COVID-19: Nigerian doctor infects 10 family members with coronavirus

A medical doctor in Bauchi state has infected his nine-year-old son and nine other family members with the deadly coronavirus pandemic.

It was gathered that the doctor might have contracted the disease while treating other COVID-19 patients in the state, The Nation reports.

However, Rilwanu Muhammed, the chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (BSPHCDA), disclosed that the doctor and his relatives have been discharged from the isolation centre where they were admitted, except his son.

Muhammed revealed that the medical doctor refused to allow himself to be treated and thus exposed his family to the deadly virus.

The BSPHCDA boss said: ”The doctor and nine of his family members were recently discharged but the last child, the 9-year son is still in isolation.

"When the doctor got infected, instead of allowing other doctors to take care of him, he went home with it. He ought to have placed himself on a sick role and allow others to treat him..."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the Medical Guild had said that three health workers had tested positive for coronavirus at the Alimosho General Hospital and Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.

The affected people are also their members. Dr Oluwajimi Sodipo and Dr Ismail Ajibowo, the chairman and secretary of the guild made this known on Thursday, April 23, on the association’s Instagram account.

The guild’s chief officials also said the affected officials were undergoing treatment at different health facilities for Covid-19 in the state.

They added that the health officials are stable and the association was giving them the needed support.

According to the group, doctors at the Alimosho General Hospital, Ikorodu General Hospital, Lagos General Hospital and LASUTH were exposed to coronavirus.

Tests were, therefore, being carried out in those places to ascertain those that are infected by the new development. The medical leaders advised all health officials without PPEs to stop attending to patients as a way of protecting themselves.
