Ibrahim Gambari’s appointment excites Nigerian governors - Fayemi

Kayode Fayemi, the national chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) has said that state governors are happy over the new appointment of Ibrahim Gambari.

Fayemi said that governors are excited over Gambari's position as the chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari because he has proven his competence both nationally and internationally in various capacities, Nigerian Tribune reports.

The Ekiti governor said that the chief of staff's experience, pedigree, and exposure speak for him as the right man for the position.

He, therefore made it clear that governors are willing to work with Gambari at the sub-national level so as to move the country's economy forward, especially at a time when countries of the world, including Nigeria, are battling with the effects of unstable oil prices.

Fayemi said: “Your credentials, pedigree, experience and career trajectory both locally and globally speak to your capacity. As state governors, we are excited about this appointment.

“This is even more so now with the exacerbation of our circumstances precipitated by the volatility of oil prices and the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the Nigerians in Diaspora Monitoring Group (UK) had hailed President Buhari's choice of Gambari as his new chief of staff.

In a communique issued at the end of an emergency virtual meeting on Thursday, the UK-based Nigerians described the diplomat's appointment as a “plus to the country's image abroad.”

With Gambari being a seasoned diplomat and academia, the group said the new chief of staff joins the presidency comes with pedigree and would offer credibility to President Buhari's administration, especially in the international community.

The group said it believed Gambari's wealth of experience would impact positively on the administrative and policy direction of the federal government.

The Nigerians expressed total support for the president, who according to them, displayed statesmanship, putting the interest of Nigerians in appointments into sensitive positions of authorities in the country.

It, however, urged the new chief of staff to swiftly hit the ground running and ensure that the nation comes ahead of his personal interest.
