Nigerian military neutralize notorious criminal elements in Benue, arrest militia members in Nasarrawa

- Troops carried out a raid operation on the hideout of a wanted notorious criminal named Gana in Benue state

- Two of Gana's gang members were neutralized during the operation while others fled with gunshot wounds

- The troops were able to recover dangerous weapons such as locally fabricated machine gun, locally-made rifles, and revolver pistols

The Nigerian military said a combined team of Operation Whirl Stroke Special Forces troops of Sector 2 deployed in Gbise and Zaki Biam in Benue state and Sector 4 from Taraba state neutralized the hideout of a wanted notorious criminal named Gana.

Legit.ng gathered that the troops carried out a raid operation on the hideout in Mtan village in Utenge Council Ward of Katsina-Ala LGA of Benue state on Saturday, May 16.

In a statement by the coordinator of defence media operations, John Enenche, on Sunday, May 17, the force said two (2) of the gang members were neutralized while others fled with gunshot wounds.

Though Gana narrowly escaped death with gunshot wounds, the troops were able to recover the following items: one (1) locally fabricated machine gun, six (6) locally-made rifles, two (2) locally fabricated cartridge guns, one Dane gun, two revolver pistols, and two Cartridge pistols.

Other items recovered include 27 rounds of 9mm ammunition, two motorcycles, one camouflage shirt, one generator set, one bag of gun powder, and assorted charms.

Personal items belonging to Gana, and thatched houses were destroyed by the soldiers.

Meanwhile, troops of Sector 3 deployed at Ondori in Doma local government areas of Nasarawa state acting on credible intelligence that a group of Bassa armed militia was planning to attack some Tiv villages over land disputes.

Troops raided their camp located at Kpelebewa village in Rukubi area of Doma local government area of Nasarawa state and apprehended 7 members of the Bassa militia dressed in red shirts.

Items recovered include one locally fabricated machine gun, six locally fabricated rifles, two locally fabricated cartridge guns, one Dane gun, two revolver pistols, two Cartridge firing pistols, 57 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 29 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and 22 cartridges of ammunition.

Other items are one dagger, poisoned bows and arrows, desert Camouflage head gears and pouch, six phone handsets, and some charms. The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation to be handed over to the Nigeria Police.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the Nigerian military said its troops of Operation Whirl Stroke and Special Forces of Sector 2 deployed in Zaki Biam neutralized a criminal hideout off Zaki Biam and Katsina-Ala highway in Benue state.

In a statement by the coordinator of defence media operations, on Friday, May 8, the force said the "special commando operation" led to the neutralization of Terugwa Igbagwa alias Orjondu.

"It would be recalled that Orjondu is the second most wanted criminal kingpin next to Gana in Benue state," part of the statement read.
