Ifeanyi Dike: UNIPORT student sentenced to death for murder of 8-year-old girl

- A 200-level student of UNIPORT, Ifeanyi Dike, has been sentenced to death by hanging by a high court sitting in Port Harcourt

- The sentence was delivered barely three years after Dike and his friend cold-bloodedly murdered an 8-year-old girl Victory Chikamso

- Sergeant Johnbosco Okoronze of the state CID was also sentenced to one-year jail for aiding the escape of Dike from police custody in 2017

Ifeanyi Dike, a second-year student of Physics department at the University of Port Harcourt, has been sentenced to death by Port Harcourt high court over the murder of an eight-year-old girl Victory Chikamso Nmezuwuba.

The 26-year-old, alongside one Ugochukwu Nwamiroi, were sentenced to death by hanging barely three years after they carried out the suspected ritual murder.

Justice, Adolphus Enebele, who delivered the judgment, ruled that the convicts did not have enough evidence to prove their innocence, hence the death sentence, The Guardian reports.

Legit.ng recalls that Dike was arrested by a local vigilance group in Eliozu axis with some of his accomplices for the death of little Victory.

DSP Omoni Nnamdi, the public relations officer of the Nigeria Police Force command in Rivers, later confirmed that Dike and Victory lived in the same address, adding that he would be paraded.

But few weeks after his arrest, Dike escaped from the premises of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) with the aid of police personnel on duty, Sgt Johnbosco Okoronze.

Amid wide outrage and social media criticism, Dike was later rearrested and dragged to the court for the commencement of his murder trial.

Three years after the hearing, he and his accomplices met their waterloo as they were eventually sentenced to death.

Justice Enebele also sentenced Sergeant Johnbosco Okoronze of the state CID to one-year imprisonment for aiding the escape of Dike from police custody.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that police have commended its officer for his professionalism after he was assaulted by a woman in Eruwa community of Oyo during lockdown enforcement duty.

The officer, Adeyemo Ogunyemi, was seen in a viral video being slapped repeatedly by the woman who was said to have also assaulted two female officers.

Police said since the beginning of lockdown 27 police personnel have suffered a series of attacks, vowing that the woman in question will face the wrath of law.
