Delta state has recorded another death from the coronavirus pandemic. The deceased was one of the five new cases of COVID-19 in the state.
The patient was reported to have been infected in Oshimili North local government area of the state capital.
According to Channels TV, the patient died on Wednesday night, May 13, after the result of his COVID-19 test turned out positive for coronavirus, the Delta state ministry of information confirmed.
As at 8:42 am on Thursday, May 14, Delta now has a total of twenty-two (22) confirmed cases. Twelve (12) are active cases with four (4) deaths and six (6) people have been discharged after making full recovery.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 184 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 4,971. The health agency confirmed five cases were recorded in Delta.
NCDC made the announcement via its Twitter handle on Wednesday night, May 13. The total number of recoveries is now 1,070, while the number of fatalities increased to 164.
Six new deaths were recorded with 111 new recoveries from the last update.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a fleeing coronavirus patient from Delta has been apprehended by the Enugu state government after allegedly escaping from the Delta State Isolation and Treatment Centre.
Dr. Obi Ikechukwu, the Enugu state health commissioner revealed this in a statement, adding that the arrest of the patient was instructed by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
The Enugu state Rapid Response Team/Task Force on COVID-19 and the state’s security apparatus following the governor’s directive on Tuesday, May 5, swung into action and nabbed the unidentified patient.
In other news, the Delta state government on Tuesday, May 12, dismissed reports that a 67-year-old female American died from coronavirus related issues in the state.
Recall that the American who had come into Nigeria to visit her boyfriend whom she met on the internet died in a hotel room in Osubi, Okpe local government area on Sunday, May 10.
