Unknown gunmen have kidnapped the deputy chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kaduna state, Shu’aibu Idris, and his daughter.
The politician and his daughter were said to have been kidnapped by armed men on Wednesday, May 13 in the Zaria area of the state.
The incident was confirmed by the APC chairman in Kaduna state, Retired Air Commodore Emmanuel Jekada, on Thursday, May 14.
Jekada told Channels Television that the party’s deputy chairman and his daughter were abducted in the night from their house located at Kwanar Zango along the Zaria-Kaduna expressway.
According to him, the party was already making an effort to secure the release of the APC chieftain and his daughter from their abductors.
However, the police authorities in Kaduna have yet to confirm the incident.
The incident comes a few days after unknown gunmen killed over a dozen people in the southern Kaduna area.
There have been massive killings in Southern Kaduna for a while now, while locals blame the state and the federal government of not addressing the issue.
Reacting to the latest incident, President Muhammadu Buhari condemned the attacks which specifically happened in Kajuru local government area of Kaduna state.
President Buhari said: “Killing people in the name of revenge is not acceptable.”
The president added that the recourse to self-help, instead of the law of the land is the real cause of the killings and counter killings between the two communities.
The president warned that no person has the right to take the law in his or her own hands.
Indigenes in the area, however, say the president's description of the incident as a revenge attack is not correct.
According to them, the attacks are one-sided aggression against the southern Kaduna people.
