Coronavirus: Kwara governor orders sack of Covid-19 team member, queries others

- Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara has given directives for the sack of the state Covid-19 team member

- The affected member got into the hook after he was caught in a viral video unilaterally attending to a suspected case with members of the public

Amid coronavirus scare in the state, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara has ordered the sack of a Covid-19 team member for unilaterally attending to a suspected case who was later evacuated with an ambulance.

According to TVC, the governor also issued queries to the officials of the state health ministry in what he described as their failure to take necessary precautionary measures on the incident that was caught in a viral video.

Legit.ng gathers that the Covid-19 team members found themselves in the hook after video footage emerged showing a driver of the team attending to someone suspected to have coronavirus without waiting for the Rapid Response Team (RRT).

The man, as the investigation revealed, was said to have helped the suspected patient in distress into the ambulance through the help of the members of the public.

In a statement by his chief press secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, Governor AbdulRazaq raised an eyebrow against the incident and ordered the RRT members to be queried.

He condemned in totality the shoddy handling of the suspected case, saying the development as captured in the video violated the Covid-19 safety protocols.

The governor warned that such incident capable of plunging the state into unrest amid pandemic crisis must not repeat itself.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that in the spirit of gratitude and responsive leadership, Kwara state government has announced the payment of N25,000 daily for health workers who are at the frontline in the battle against the coronavirus pandemic.

Governor AbdulRahman made the pleasant announcement in a statement on Tuesday, May 5, amid the growing clamour for the improved welfare of the health workers nationwide.

According to the governor, the gesture is a show of gratitude towards the efforts of doctors and other medical personnel who are leading the fight against the Covid-19 crisis in the state.
