Some good news is beginning to spring up in Sokoto concerning COVID-19 as the state on Tuesday, May 12, discharged 41 patients who fully recovered from the virus.
According to the chairman of the Sokoto task force committee on COVID-19 and commissioner for health, Ali Inname, the patients were discharged from the isolation centre located in the Amanawa area of the state.
Inname said this brings the number of recoveries in the state to 41 out of the 106 confirmed cases, adding that this is the highest so far in Kano, The Cable reports.
Speaking further, the commissioner added: “However, out of the 75 active cases, today, we have successfully discharged 22 persons who dually tested negative for COVID-19, making a total of 41 patients discharged out of the 106 confirmed cases in the state.
“More so, the number of deaths has just increased by one today according to our update, leaving a total number of 52 active COVID-19 patients in the state.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto had confirmed the death of three COVID-19 patients in the state.
Legit.ng gathered that Tambuwal, who made the disclosure in a statewide broadcast, according to a statement by his special adviser media and publicity, Muhammad Bello, said the deceased had underlying sicknesses, including diabetes, asthma, and high blood pressure respectively.
Tambuwal said: "It is with a heavy heart that I have to break this news of the results of tests carried out by the National Center for Diseases Control (NCDC) at the laboratory here in Usman Danfodio University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), whereby 18 tests were carried out.
”Unfortunately, out of them turned out to be negative. Most of them, if not all, are persons that have had previous contacts with the two index cases that we have had initially.
And, unfortunately, so far, out of the 54 tests carried out from Sokoto state, it means that we have 19 positive cases.
“Out of these, unfortunately again, we have recorded today 3 COVID-19 associated deaths. All of the 3 are patients having a history of some other diseases-diabetes, asthma, and high blood pressure.”
The governor appealed to the communities to continue to cooperate and support security agencies keeping vigil at borders- interstate and Niger Republic with the sole aim of protecting residents.
