Mauritius has declared that it is officially free of the deadly coronavirus that has taken the world by storm, becoming the second African country to declare virus-free status after infection.
According to the island nation’s official COVID-19 page, 322 people had recovered out of the 332 confirmed cases so far. 10 people have since died.
May 11 marked the fifteenth consecutive day that the no-new-case was recorded in the country, Vanguard reports.
Legit.ng gathers that a lockdown, however, remains in place to contain the possible spread of the virus.
Weeks ago, Mauritania declared itself coronavirus-free after six coronavirus patients recovered and left the hospital, while one person succumbed to the virus.
In other news, Nigerians have reacted after Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Citadel Global Community Church formerly known as Latter Rain Assembly donated his church to the Lagos state government to be used as coronavirus isolation centre.
After the cleric made the announcement via the church's Twitter page on Sunday, May 10, it generated reactions from Nigerians on the microblogging site.
The tweet read: "The CGCC is offering the LASG parts of our current Church facilities at Akilo Road, Ogba, to be used as an isolation center for Covid-19 cases. The CGCC Medical Missions will onboard LASG officials to ensure the best utilization of this space.
"We commend the LASG and well-meaning individuals and corporate bodies for their efforts at controlling the spread of this pandemic in Lagos and by extension Nigeria. We pray for divine health, wisdom and energy for the leadership of Lagos State and frontline healthcare workers."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a Ghanaian man has been praised for inventing an automatic handwashing machine to contain the spread of coronavirus in the West African country.
In a video, a man could be seen washing his hands under the automatic tap.
