Odion Ighalo: Newcastle plot to overtake United in signing of Nigerian striker

- Odion Ighalo could be making a surprise move to Newcastle in the summer

- The Nigerian striker is yet to confirm a permanent deal with Man United

- Reports claim Newcastle want to overtake United if the club is bought by the Saudia Arabian billionaires

Odion Ighalo has become a surprise target for Premier League against Newcastle once their £300million takeover is completed.

The former Nigerian international is currently on loan at Man United and the 30-year-old is favoured to earn a permanent deal at Old Trafford.

But the Magpies are looking to make themselves a force to reckon with in the English top-flight division next season.

United will need to pay Ighalo's parent club Shanghai Shenhua £20million to make his deal permanent but reports claim Newcastle are looking to overtake United in the deal.

According to British news media outlet Sky Sports, the Toons are looking at the possibility of running past the Red Devils to get the former Watford striker.

Ighalo would return to China in July to begin the new season if Man United do not meet the requirements of making his deal permanent.

He has been offered a two-year contract extension by Shanghai Shenhua worth a staggering £400,000-a-week.

On the other hand, the Nigerian striker has revealed no offer has been made by United to make his deal permanent.

“There is no offer on the table yet,” he said.

“Because the season is still on and I'm yet to finish my loan deal. I don't just take decisions alone in my life.

“I have a principle and I have a guideline for everything I do. I always pray to God to direct me.”

NFF president names 1 Liverpool star who has finally dumped England for Nigeria

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that John Terry and Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo were once involved in a bust-up in a training session at Chelsea.

Omeruo was one time the longest-serving Chelsea player and did not make a first team appearance before leaving for La Liga club Leganes on a permanent basis last summer.

Before the start of the new season, all players assemble to train together before being sent out on loan and on one occasion the 26-year-old clashed with the club legend.

Legit.ng also revealed that Austin Okocha became the most expensive player in Africa after his impressive performance at the France 98' World Cup, according to Daniel Amokachi.

The mercurial midfielder earned a move to Paris Saint-Germain after the tournament for a record fee, the highest ever by an African player.

Okocha was Nigeria's best player from the group phase and the round of 16 before losing to Denmark by 4-1 in the quarter-finals.
