Kano government has said that the state recorded five additional deaths from the coronavirus pandemic as the number of confirmed positive cases stands at 547.
Legit.ng gathered that this was revealed by the Kano state ministry of health on Friday, May 8, in a tweet via its official Twitter handle.
The health ministry also said one more patient recovered from the disease and was discharged from the isolation facility as the state recorded sixty-five (65) new cases.
Kano currently has the second-highest number of coronavirus cases in the country after Lagos.
The state ministry of health also said that Kano now has 509 active cases of COVID-19. A total of eighteen (18) patients have died from the virus while twenty (20) patients have fully recovered and discharged in the state.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that two medical doctors and a nurse were held hostage for some hours in Kano by Covid-19 patients, creating a mild drama amid rising figures of coronavirus cases in the state.
Aminu Mohammed, former chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), made this known during a radio programme on Friday, May 8.
Mohammed said the incident happened while the doctors and nurse were conducting a routine checking around the ward where the patients are being managed.
He stressed that the incident was a confirmation of the challenges being faced by health officials who need to manage hostile patients apart from treating them.
In a related development, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported 386 new cases of the novel coronavirus in Nigeria on Friday, May 8.
The new cases are one of the highest to be reported in the country by the government agency. This was disclosed by the agency in a tweet According to the report, Lagos state has the highest infections with 176 cases while Kano followed with 65 infections.
Katsina came third with 31 infections and followed by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja which has 20 cases. Borno has 17 while Bauchi has 15.
