Coronavirus survivor in Kano says he took ginger tea, black seed as treatment

- Abdulrazak Habib, the co-chairman of Kano state task force on coronavirus, has said that he developed Covid-19 symptoms during his admission

- The professor said that he lost 7kg in weight while he was on admission in the hospital

- Clove oil, ginger tea, and black seed were among some of the things he said he took as treatment

Abdulrazak Habib, the co-chairman of Kano state task force on Covid-19, has narrated how he recovered and what he experienced as a patient.

Habib who is a professor at the Bayero University Kano and also works at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital recovered on Thursday, May 7.

In an official statement by the health ministry, his release from the isolation centre came after he tested negative twice.

The academic said he was infected while he was working with the task force, adding that he was sick for a month and on admission for several days.

“I got infected while serving as part of the Kano State COVID-19 Task Force. I suffered a moderately severe disease with high fever, cough, mild shortness of breath, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, hypokalemia, severe weakness, and ultimately mild shock. I was sick for about one month and on admission for 20 days,” he said.

Professor Habib also spoke about the regimen he was placed on during the time he was recuperating at the centre.

“(I was) treated with many medications, intravenous fluids, oxygen by nasal cannulae as well as steam inhalation using black seed, clove oil, ginger tea among other things. Overall I lost 7Kg in weight,” he said.

The coronavirus survivor also joined voice with other health workers to tell people that the disease is effective measures such as social distancing and lockdown are important.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Oluwaseun Ayodeji Osowobi, a coronavirus survivor shared a powerful message on the disease in a short video by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

In the short clip, the Covid-19 survivor told people that being negative does not give them the right to stigmatise those that are positive for the virus. She said that when she tested positive, it was quite a shock and she had to struggle to accept her reality.

Oluwaseun added that despite the fact there is so much information on how to protect oneself, nothing quite prepares one for the emotional hit when one's test comes back positive.

She assured anyone who is admitted at one the isolation centres for coronavirus that they are getting the best of care. She said that if she could survive, they too can.
