Coronavirus: Yobe lawmaker tests positive for Covid-19

- A lawmaker from Yobe state House of Assembly, Lawan Nguru, has tested positive for Covid-19

- Nguru said he is in a stable condition at the isolation centre and expressed hope that he would soon recover from the infectious disease

A lawmaker representing Nguru central constituency at the Yobe state House of Assembly, Lawan Nguru, has tested positive for COVID-19.

Nguru who is the only member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the state assembly, said he had gone on isolation, The Cable reports.

He said he is in stable condition, expressing optimism that he would recover from the disease.

“Presently, I am in isolation centre and recuperating in a very stable condition waiting for further directives from Health officers.

"In addition, I salute the gesture shown to us by Yobe state government in up keeping the victims and in controlling the spread of the virus in the state,” he said.

According to the latest data from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Yobe state has 13 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and one death.

As part of measures to control the spread of COVID-19, Mai Buni, governor of the state, has made the wearing of face masks compulsory in public.

He also directed the committee on COVID-19 headed by Idi Gubana, the deputy governor and chairman of the state COVID-19 committee, to make sure hand washing facilities and sanitisers are in all public places like filling stations, shopping complex and markets to curb.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Borno state lost one of its lawmakers, Umar Audi, who represented Bayo constituency at the state House of Assembly.

Audi was reported to have passed away on Tuesday evening, May 5, at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

The lawmaker was initially rejected because there was no bed space as the health workers claimed the only available space was for any emergency that is childbirth related.

He was later admitted after his family member prevailed over the matter but he gave up shortly after he was admitted for treatment.
