A report by The Nation indicates that a fleeing coronavirus patient from Delta has been apprehended by the Enugu state government after allegedly escaping from the Delta State Isolation and Treatment Centre.

Dr. Obi Ikechukwu, the Enugu state health commissioner revealed this in a statement, adding that the arrest of the patient was instructed by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

The Enugu State Rapid Response Team/Task Force on COVID-19 and the state’s security apparatus following the governor’s directive on Tuesday, May 5, swung into action and nabbed the unidentified patient.

The statement reads in part: “In a coordinated sequence of events with the Delta State COVID-19 Task Force, we moved swiftly yesterday, detected, contained and returned a confirmed COVID-19 case who had escaped from an isolation and treatment centre in Delta State to Enugu."

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, disclosed that a nursing mother identified as Amaka Okoro has escaped after she tested positive to COVID-19.

The governor made this known on Thursday, April 30, on his Twitter handle, @GovernorObaseki. He said Okoro who is a nursing mother and lived at No 2 Atoe Idubor street, off 2nd Ugbor, Benin City, tested positive for coronavirus.

Obaseki who urged the public with any useful information to contact relevant health and security agencies, noted that she posed a risk to herself, baby, and the public.

In a related development, after much search and intelligence gathering, the Taraba state government has apprehended a coronavirus patient who recently fled from an isolation centre.

According to the state commissioner for health and chairman of Taraba's COVID-19 technical committee, Dr. Innocent Vakkai, the patient goes by the name Talatu Idris.

During a briefing in Jalongo on Monday, May 4, Vakkai revealed that Talatu, a female, has been returned to the isolation centre where she fled from.
