Kano records three deaths, 92 fresh COVID-19 cases

The Kano state government has confirmed three additional COVID-19 deaths. This brings the number of COVID-19 related deaths in the state to eight.
Since Kano state recorded its index COVID-19 case, the number has continued to surge. The state government confirmed 92 fresh cases on Friday, May 1. The state now has a total infection of 311, making it the second highest after Lagos.
The cases were confirmed in a tweet on Friday at exactly 11.30pm by the state Ministry of Health.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in the late hours of Friday, May 1, reported 238 cases of the novel coronavirus in Nigeria. The new cases are among the highest to be reported in the country by the government agency.
According to the report, Kano state topped the list with 92 cases while Federal Capital Territory, Abuja followed with 36 infections. Lagos came third with 30 cases.
Legit.ng earlier reported that following the increasing rate of coronavirus pandemic in Kano state, the presidency has called for intensive sensitisation in the state.
The special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on new media, Bashir Ahmad, made the call on Saturday, May 2, in a thread of tweets.
Ahmad expressed worry over the growing spike in the cases, saying that the situation demanded intensive sensitisation in the state immediately. He said all hands must be on deck to help stop the spread of coronavirus in the state.
“Intensive sensitisation needed in Kano. We have a role to play, and we must play it now. 92 in Kano in one day; all hands have to be on deck.
"Kano, if it is a must to go out please wear your mask, let’s create more awareness, let’s double all our efforts to arrest the situation, let’s advocate the #MaskUpKano together, I am donating 5000 washable face masks to my immediate community, join me. #COVID19Kano," he tweeted.
