Ex-CBN governor Soludo urges FG, states to lift lockdown

- Dr Charles Soludo has weighed in on government's coronavirus lockdown across the country

- The former CBN governor says it is time to lift the lockdown totally because the country cannot afford to let it continue

- Soludo spoke on Friday, May 1, just about four days after President Buhari announced some measures to ease the lockdown in three phases

A former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has urged the federal government and the states to totally lift the lockdown that they imposed across the country in the battle against coronavirus.

According to Soludo, the Nigerian economy could not afford to be locked down for a longer period of time.

Soludo made his submission on Friday, May 1 when he appeared on a programme on Channels Television which was monitored by Legit.ng.

Legit.ng notes that Soludo's advice came just days President Muhammadu Buhari announced some measures in the easing of some of his lockdown orders to allow states to take over the restrictions.

President Muhammadu Buhari addressed Nigerians on Monday, April 27 and provided an update on the lockdown measures imposed on the Federal Capital Territory, Lagos and Ogun states.

The president also provided an update on what his government is doing to curb the spread of the viral disease.

Meanwhile, days after President Buhari's announcement, despite the increasing cases of coronavirus-infected patients in Nigeria, the federal government ordered civil servants from grade level 14 to resume work at their respective duty posts on Monday, May 4.

The order was contained in a memo signed on Thursday, April 30, by the Head of Service (HoS) of the federation, Folasade Yemi-Esan.

In the memo directed to all heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), the HoS said the workers would be allowed to work three times in a week and that the closing time would be 2 pm.
