President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Nigerian military totally eliminate Boko Haram in the Lake Chad region and the entire northeast by sustaining the ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the country.
The Nigerian president gave the directive on Thursday, April 30, in Abuja shortly after Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state paid him a visit, Premium Times reports.
Buhari said he was satisfied with the giant strides being recorded by the armed forces in the fight against insurgency
The president urged Nigerian troops not to relent in the discharge of their mandate.

He told the troops to ensure that no part of the nation’s territory is habitable for the terrorists so that sustainable peace and development can be achieved.
Meanwhile, in the last seven days, the Nigerian military scored a number of victories in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency in the north-east region.
According to PRNigeria, the gallant troops of Sector 1 Operation Lafiya Dole (OPLD) engaged the terrorists hibernating within its own area of operation in the theatre.
About eleven Boko Haram terrorists were neutralized in the operations while many escaped with life-threatening injuries, gunshot wounds, and equipment, supplies were captured and destroyed.
This is contained in a statement released by Major General John Enenche, the coordinator defence media operations DHQ.
Items recovered by the troops include two AK 47 rifles, four motorcycles, 2 bicycles, 1 locally fabricated hand grenade, and 2 copies of the Holy Qur’an with assorted clothing items.
The military also destroyed 4 carts conveying several food items and clothing at the location.
However, one brave soldier, unfortunately, lost his life in the process, while another sustained a gunshot wound with the third suffering a minor injury.
In another news report, soldiers and policemen have reportedly engaged in a bloody battle at Bomadi town in Bomadi local government area of Delta state.
The security men were on patrol to enforce compliance of the lockdown imposed on the state by the governor.
The Sun reports that the argument between both parties was over violation of lockdown rules. According to the newspaper, the argument consequently became heated up before turning violent. As a result of this, a soldier was shot at a close range.
