COVID-19: Researchers in Edo state announce cure for global pandemic

- Some medical experts in Edo have spoken on their new-found pill that is capable of curing coronavirus

- The pill called CVD PLUS is said to have been developed while the researchers were looking for a cure for hepatitis C, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, bronchitis and pneumonia

- However, both NAFDAC and the Nigeria Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) have said that no cure has been found for the global pandemic

Pax Herbal Clinic and Research Laboratories, a group of medical practitioners in Edo state has claimed that it has found a herbal cure for coronavirus.

According to the group of medical researchers, the pill, CVD PLUS, is specifically for the treatment of COVID-19 pandemic, although the laboratory technicians admitted that they have not used the new formula in administering treatment on anyone, for now, The Cable reports.

The researchers pointed out that the CVD PLUS contains "bio-active constituents of CVD PLUS are potential antiviral agents and immunomodulatory agents that can stimulate antibody production against coronavirus related diseases.”

The laboratory also stated that the CVD PLUS is the product of 25-years painstaking research works in search of a cure for hepatitis C, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, bronchitis, pneumonia and malaria.

However, in reaction to the claims of the researchers, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) as well as the Nigeria Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), clearly said that so far, no proven cure has been found for the virus.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the Chinese government had begun clinical trials to test a drug for the coronavirus infection.

A new antiviral drug called Remdesivir, which is aimed at infectious diseases such as Ebola and SARS, is to be tested in Beijing-based China-Japan Friendship Hospital to see if it would curb the new strain of coronavirus.

Moreover, at a press conference held in Abuja, the Nigerian capital city on Monday, February 3, China's ambassador to Nigeria, Zhou Pingjian, had assured that mechanisms are already in place to ensure that the virus is not only curbed and controlled but also treated.

Pingjian said: "The Chinese nation has gone through great winds and waves and overcome countless difficulties.

"The 1000 bed makeshift hospital in Wuhan, which was built in 9 days and is in full operation today, speaks volumes.”

Speaking on the safety of the Nigerian community in China, the ambassador said that the Chinese government is committed to saving the lives of not less than 60 citizens who reside in Wuhan.

He said: "We will, in a responsible manner, safeguard the safety of every foreign national in China, including the Nigerian expatriates, and address their legitimate concerns in a timely manner.”
