- Wilfred Ndidi joined Leicester City from Genk in 2017
- The Nigerian has been impressive for the Foxes making great tackles and interceptions
- He has been named in the top ten best midfielders in the Premier League this season
Nigeria’s Wilfred Ndidi has been named among the top ten best midfielders in the English Premier League this season, according football facts and statistics website Squawka, cited by Complete Sports.
The Leicester City star has been impressive since joining the Foxes in 2017 in a £17 million transfer deal from Belgian side Genk.
In a 3–1 win over Liverpool on 27 February 2017, Ndidi won 11 of his 14 tackles, a feat bettered only by Chelsea's N'Golo Kanté who made 14 tackles against the same club in January.
Other big stars in the top ten best midfielders as releaded by Squawka include Manchester City sensation Kevin de Bruyne as well as Liverpool stars Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum.
Manchester United’s Fred also made the list alongside Chelsea’s Mateo Kovacic of Chelsea.
Commenting on Ndidi, Squawka wrote: “You may have been struck by Wilfred Ndidi’s importance to Leicester City during his recent spell on the sidelines. Across those five matches he missed, due to a troublesome knee injury, Brendan Rodgers’ men picked up just two points from 15 available while shipping seven goals.
“He is without doubt the glue which binds everything together in perfect harmony and there’s a strong case his presence allows everyone around him to excel, as we saw in those big wins over Newcastle United (3-0), West Ham (4-1) and Aston Villa (4-0), which happen to be his only league appearances in 2020 so far.”
The Nigerian has made a total of 92 tackles which is the most this season including 61 interceptions.
Premier League’s best midfielders this season ranked:
1. Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City)
2. Jordan Henderson (Liverpool)
3. Jack Grealish (Aston Villa)
4. Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City)
5. James Maddison (Leicester City)
6. Georginio Wijnaldum (Liverpool)
7. Mateo Kovacic (Chelsea)
8. Oliver Norwood (Sheffield United)
9. Fred (Manchester United)
10. Todd Cantwell (Norwich City)
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi has continued to make the headlines in the Premier League as one of the best defensive midfielders, but he says Mikel is the best in that position, AOI Football reports.
Ndidi who made his debut for the Super Eagles in 2015 under former coach Sunday Oliseh has disclosed that Mikel’s qualities stand him out. He mentioned this during a live Instagram chat with the media team of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
