The granny was living in a nursing home in New York and had been taken to the hospital for a different medical procedure when she was discovered to have contracted the virus.

After weeks of uncertainty, she recovered from COVID-19 and was already looking for wool to knit.

'They tell me she’s doing great. She’s up and about as much as possible. She’s looking for wool to crochet with. If my mother could see this I’d tell her, 'You keep going, ma, you’re gonna outlive us all," her daughter, Joanne Merola, said.

Angelina's mother is said to have died giving birth to her aboard a ship that was taking immigrants from Italy to the US at the time of the second wave of the Spanish flu.

She was taken care of by her two sisters who were with her mother as told by her daughter Merola.
