Coronavirus: FG announces 50% of basic salary as hazard allowance for health workers

- The federal government has announced a special hazard allowance package for health workers amid the COVID-19 pandemic

- The minister of state for health said 50% of basic salary will be paid as the hazard allowance to the health workers in teaching hospitals, federal medical centres and designated COVID-19 centres

- For the health workers at special non-public hospitals and clinics in Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies, 40% of their basic salary will be paid as hazard allowance

The federal government has announced that a special COVID-19 hazard and inducement allowance will be paid to health workers in the country.

According to the minister of state for health, Olorunnimbe Mamora, 50% of Consolidated Basic Salary will be paid as the hazard allowance to the health workers in teaching hospitals, federal medical centres and designated COVID-19 centres.

Channels TV reports that the hazard allowance will be paid for the first three months in the first instance.

Legit.ng gathers that Mamora announced this on Monday, April 27, in Abuja during the joint national briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.

The minister added that 40% of the Consolidated Basic Salary would be paid as Special COVID-19 Hazard and Inducement Allowance to health workers at special non-public hospitals and clinics in Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies for a three-month period in the first instance.

“20% of Consolidated Basic Salary will be paid as Special Risk Allowance additionally on the Special COVID-19 Hazard and Inducement Allowance, to all Health Workers directly managing COVID-19 at Infectious Diseases Hospitals, Isolation and Treatment Centres.

“10% of Consolidated Basic Salary will be paid to non-core medical professionals working in health sector and operating at aforementioned hospitals and clinics, as special COVID-19 allowance, for three months in the first instance,” Mamora said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Lagos chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) announced the death of Chugbo Emeka, a medical doctor.

The announcement was made via a post on the association’s Twitter handle on Wednesday evening, April 15.

The doctor who was reportedly a private medical practitioner was said to have died after being exposed to a COVID-19 patient.
