Coronavirus: Buhari declares total lockdown of Kano over COVID-19 spread

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the total lockdown of Kano state for two weeks in a bid to curtail the spread of coronavirus in the state.
Legit.ng reports that the president made the directive on the evening of Monday, April 27, during a national broadcast on COVID-19 pandemic
It was reported that as of Sunday, April 26, the Kano state has confirmed 77 cases.
The president said: “With regards to Kano, I have directed the enforcement of a total lockdown for a period of two weeks effective immediately.
"The federal government shall deploy all the necessary human, material and technical resources to support the state in controlling and containing the pandemic and preventing the risk of further spread to neighboring states.”
President Buhari also promised to give support to the Kano state government to be able to win the war against the pandemic.
He stressed that the resolve of the federal government to deploy all necessary machinery to enable the state to contain the pandemic.
“The federal government shall deploy all the necessary human, material and technical resources to support the state in controlling and containing the pandemic," he said.

While easing the lockdown imposed on Lagos, Ogun and the FCT effective from May 4, the president said the total lockdown in Kano would be or two weeks, starting from Monday, April 27.
Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje had earlier in the day decried the alleged neglect of the state by the federal task force committee on COVID-19 despite the intensity of the situation in the state.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that a deputy commissioner police in charge of zonal criminal investigation department Edo state, Francis Bissong, died from COVID-19 complications in his official apartment in Benin, on Tuesday, April 21.
It was reported that the Edo state commissioner of information, Patrick Okundia, had earlier announced the death of Bissong but he did not go into details.
However, Paul Yakadi, an assistant inspector-general of police in charge of zone 5, Benin has narrated the events that led to Bissong’s death.
Yakadi in a statement disclosed that the deceased had on April 9, travelled to Akure, Ondo state capital, to see his family and celebrate Easter with them.
