Breaking: Osun state records 2 COVID-19 deaths

- Osun state government announced that two COVID-19 deaths have been recorded in the state

The COVID-19 casualty figure in Nigeria has risen again as the Osun state government on Sunday, April 26, announced the death of two patients while receiving treatment for coronavirus, The Cable reports.

This was disclosed by Osun state governor, Gboyega Oyetola on Sunday, April 26, during a press briefing at the Government House in Osogbo.

According to Oyetola, one patient died at Ede, while the second lost the battle to COVID-19 in Ile-Ife.

He said: “We are sad to announce the death of two confirmed cases; one in Ede and the other in Ile-Ife.”

This is coming after the Osun government said the state has recorded twelve (12) new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total confirmed cases in the state to 32.

A statement by Ismail Omipidan, the chief press secretary to Governor Gboyega Oyetola, made the confirmation on Saturday, April 25.

The new cases, according to the commissioner for health Rafiu Isamotu, were recorded in the state capital Osogbo, Ife, Ede, Ikire, and Ejigbo.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Lagos state announced another casualty from coronavirus (Covid-19) as the total death toll from the state peaked to nineteen (19).

The state ministry of health made the announcement in a series of tweets on Saturday, April 25, barely 24 hours after Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced 114 new cases, with Lagos having whopping 80 cases.

Two cases each were recorded in Zamfara and Edo, while Ogun, Oyo, Kaduna and Sokoto have one case each. With these new infections, Nigeria’s total cases now stand at 1,095, out of which 208 cases have been discharged while 32 deaths have been recorded.

In a related development, the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) has asked the federal government to scale down to partial mode with relaxed restriction in the ongoing lockdown.

In a letter dated Friday, April 24, and addressed to Boss Mustapha, the NGF requested subject to the president’s approval, internal free movement in all the states, but with restrictions on large gatherings.

Mustapha is the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and also the chairman, Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.
