Amid the growing spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ondo government said it has confirmed three new cases of coronavirus in the state.
The Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu made the disclosure, in a tweet via his official Twitter handle @RotimiAkeredolu on Sunday, April 24.
According to Akeredolu, one of the patients is a suspect that was recently arraigned for the murder of Pa Fasoranti’s daughter, Mrs. Funke Olakunrin.
The governor went on to note that the state police commissioner has been informed. While stating that the suspect has been isolated from others, Akeredolu added that they have started tracing policemen and others in the facility where the patient was kept.
He also said the suspect will be moved for treatment and there will be adequate security around the premises to prevent his escape while receiving treatment.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Nigeria has recorded 87 new cases of coronavirus pandemic as Lagos state took the lead with 33 while Borno, Osun, and Katsina have 18, 12, and 9 respectively.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) made this known on the evening of Saturday, April 25 via its Twitter handle @NCDCgov. Other states included Katsina (9), Kano (4), Ekiti (4), Edo (3), Bauchi (3) and Imo (1).
The NCDC said that as at 11:55 pm on April 25, there were 1182 confirmed cases of coronavirus reported in Nigeria. The federal agency also noted that 222 COVID-19 cases have been discharged so far while 35 deaths have been recorded as at Saturday, April 25.
Borno confirms state now has 4 official Covid-19 cases as Zulum-led government announces result of 48 suspected cases
In other news, the federal government is not disposed to the call by state governors for the relaxation of the current lockdown in the country over the coronavirus pandemic.
Sources said federal authorities are much in favour of partial restrictions in 33 of the 36 states with a view to mitigating the effects of the current lockdown in many parts of the country as against the relaxation being sought by the governors.
It was gathered that the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 which President Muhammadu Buhari relies on principally for advice on the pandemic is not in agreement with the governors that the government should soft-pedal in the FCT, Lagos, Ogun and Kano states.
