Coronavirus: Enugu tightens boundary closures amid pandemic

Enugu government said borders across the state have been closed down amid coronavirus pandemic in order to ensure total compliance with the lockdown directive given by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi-led administration.
Speaking on Wednesday, April 23, while distributing palliative to the people of Aninri local government, the state commissioner for transport, Mathias Ekweremadu, said the Covid-19 task force in the state has set the wheel on move to ensure compliance with the stay at home order.
The commissioner further noted that no movement in the state pending the time the lockdown will be relaxed, and only vehicle conveying food items and rendering essential services will be allowed, Vanguard reports.

"I have just visited borders in Aninri and other boundaries in Enugu state and it’s all about sensitization and monitoring so that our people must continue to observe the idea of not travelling in this lockdown period; but for those who are coming in with commodities or essential goods, they must wash their hands and sanitize themselves against the coronavirus.
“For now, our borders are intact, but we have been monitoring. We can’t get it hundred per cent but we must go extra mile to enforce it because Enugu State is in the hands of God, which is the strategic idea of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who has joined on some occasions to see the border closure is enforced, in order to ensure that people are protected," Ekweremadu said.
The transport commissioner also called for a collective fight against Covid-19 pandemic and enjoined the people of the state to maintain social distancing and exercise regular hygiene.
He also stressed that all hands are on deck to ensure that the spread of coronavirus is totally curbed through the measures put in place by the government.
Enugu, according to the official data of the Nigeria Cente for Disease Control (NCDC), has two cases of Covid-19.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that NCDC on Thursday, April 23, said that 223 out of the 873 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country got infected from “unknown sources.”
This was contained in its situation report of April 22, published on Thursday, April 23, and which covered 25 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
It was gathered that out of a total of 873 cases, 197 persons have been discharged, while 28 deaths have occurred; the three deaths reported on Wednesday occurred in Ekiti, Oyo and Borno.
