The group, however, noted with dismay the level of monumental corruption that has bedevilled the NNDC since its creation by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2000.
The group further berated some directors in the NDDC “for working round the clock in a bid to frustrate the ongoing forensic audit and financial crimes committed.”
The statement commended the minister for his determination to sanitize and purge the commission of all forms of corruption.
The group applauded the former Akwa Ibom state governor for being the first minister in recent times to visit the NDDC headquarters to address the staff on the need to refrain from misconduct and fraud.
They noted that Senator Akpabio is the first minister to carry out verification before payments are made and the first to order the stoppage of upfront payment on fictitious contract without verification hence saving the ministry millions of naira in the process.
The statement also applauded the new Managing Director of the NDDC, Professor Kemebradikumo Pondei for his co-operation with the minister on the success of the forensic audit.
The group thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing Akpabio as a minister, saying his past outstanding achievements as a former governor of an oil-rich state still speaks for him.
They also appealed to the president to remove the East-West road budget from the Sovereign Wealth Fund and return it back to the ministry of Niger Delta affairs, to enable sections 1-4 of the project to be completed in due time to ease the plight of commuters in the region.
