As part of its low-key 56th anniversary, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Wednesday, April 22 held a fly-past with eight aircraft (two Augusta helicopters, three Alpha jets and three L-39 ZA aircraft) in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

In an eye-popping formation flight over the Abuja city air space, the Nigerian Air Force pilots lifted the spirits of Nigerians as residents continue to stay indoors amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking to journalists after the display, Air Marshal Abubakar praised officers and men of the NAF for their patriotism and sacrifice towards the corporate existence of Nigeria.

He stated that the NAF had made tremendous progress since its establishment in 1964.

His words: “Officers and men are working round-the-clock to ensure that our country is secured, to ensure that we have serviceable aircraft.

“For instance, for the COVID-19 pandemic, we are at the forefront of ensuring that it is curtailed.

“We are the ones flying officials of government all over the country. We have flown over 151 hours so far, in support of the PTF (Presidential Task Force). In addition to that, we have moved several items from Lagos Abuja and other places.”

“Of course, the research and development arm is also encouraging, we are working to produce our own ventilators. We have made substantial progress.

“And I believe that very soon, we should able to come up with something not only for the Nigerian Air Force hospitals but also support other hospitals outside the Air Force.”
