Coronavirus: Adamawa records first COVID-19 case

- Adamawa state has recorded its first COVID-19 case

- The report has it that the case is a returnee from Kano state

- NCDC is yet to confirm the news about the index case in Adamawa state

A report by Sahara Reporters indicates that a returnee from Kano, who earlier submitted himself for a coronavirus test, disclosed that he is positive for COVID-19 during a chat on Wednesday, April 22.

Legit.ng reports that although the news has not been confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the online news medium noted that that the man has been on self-isolation since returning to the state from Kano.

He said: "I got a call from the COVID-19 containment committee this morning, informing me that my result showed I'm positive for the virus."

The state government is yet to officially announce the case.

According to the report, when contacted, the chairman of the committee, who is also the secretary to the state government, Bashiru Ahmad, simply said, "I will call you back."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Edo state House of Assembly speaker, Frank Okiye, called for a collective fight against the coronavirus pandemic as he survived the scare of the virus after testing negative twice.

It was reported that Okiye tested positive to the global pandemic and the information of his COVID-19 status was disclosed by the Edo state deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, while briefing journalists on Wednesday, March 25.

He was said to have contracted the disease during his visit to the United Kingdom and was afterwards subjected to treatment after showing symptoms.

But speaking on Tuesday, April 21, on his survival journey, Okiye disclosed that what saved him was early treatment after he became symptomatic.

Okiye, who thanked Governor Godwin Obaseki for his leadership in handling the crisis, noted that though no vaccine solution has been discovered for the COVID-19, the virus is not a death sentence as people claimed.

In another report, the wealthy Muslims who had planned to perform this year's Umrah (lesser Hajj) at the Holy Mosque, Kabbah, in Saudi Arabia, were urged to channel the resources to help the less privileged as the COVID-19 lockdown continues.

The secretary-general of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, said the call became necessary since the Umrah would not be possible with the current global pandemic.

He said Muslims should emulate Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in all their daily activities by putting a smile on other people's faces.
