Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso has donated the Amana Hospital to the Kano state government to serve as a COVID-19 isolation center.

Kwankwaso, who is a former governor of Kano, urged all Nigerians to adhere to all health guidelines and recommendations to avoid the spread of the disease.

He called on Nigerians to devote themselves to prayer and to seek forgiveness from Allah in order to be saved from the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the Kano state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje on Sunday, April 19, confirmed that the state recorded 10 new cases of COVID-19, also called coronavirus.

Ganduje posted the latest development in the state in relation to the virus on his social media handle.

According to him, with the 10 new cases, the state now has a figure of 37 COVID-19 patients.

The governor said: "We have now confirmed a total of 37 #COVID19 cases with 10 new emerging yesterday evening.

It’s important that you wash your hands and disinfect your environment to avoid catching the virus. "We are working tenaciously to make sure that the people of Kano state remain safe."

In another report, the Kano state government has dismissed a rumour which claimed that coronavirus has caused mass deaths in the state.

The state ministry of health in a statement on Monday, April 20, through a series of tweets, said the state task force on COVID-19 has found the rumours to be false.

The government said state officials deployed to all burial grounds to count bodies brought in for burial every day investigated the rumour and fount it to be untrue.

It accused the media and rumour mongers trying to cause panic in the state.

The government appealed to individuals with massive social media followership to help dismiss the rumour.

Still on health, the director-general, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, has informed Nigerians that life won’t return to normal after COVID-19 pandemic. Ihekweazu stated this while speaking on a radio programme in Lagos on Monday, April 20.

He said that a return to the pre-COVID lifestyle, once the current restrictions are relaxed, could bring about a high resurgence of the infection.

The NCDC boss also advised business owners to adjust their business model such that it is compliant to social distancing and reduces the level of interaction among people.

He stressed that Nigerians must continue to adhere to precautionary measures of basic hygiene, respiratory etiquette, use of sanitisers.
