Insecurity: Troops repel Boko Haram attacks in Geidam (updated)
- Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly launched a fresh attack on Geidam local government area of Yobe state
- The residents were seen scampering for safety as the attack came at the time that they were out for their businesses
- Latest reports have, however, indicated that the attack has been repelled by the Nigerian soldiers
Suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked Geidam local government area of Yobe state, a report by Daily Trust has stated.
The attack came a few hours after several key Boko Haram Terrorists/ISWAP leaders were killed in multiple airstrikes conducted by the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole at Durbada in Borno state.
According to Daily Trust, anonymous sources in the affected local government confirmed that the insurgents stormed the town through the southern part of Gumsa village firing gunshots sporadically.
One of the sources said people ran helter-skelter, scampering for safety as the attack came at the time that residents were out for their businesses.
Meanwhile, the latest updated report coming from Daily Trust indicates that Nigerian soldiers have repelled the attack.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the Nigerian Army disclosed that it has killed 105 Boko Haram insurgents in a battle at Buni Gari, Gujba local government of Yobe state.
Col Sagir Musa, the acting director of army public relations, said the attack on the insurgents was carried out on Saturday evening, April 18, by troops of Sector 2, Operation Lafiya Dole, led by their commander, Brig Gen Lawrence Araba.
The spokesperson in a statement noted that the offensive was carried out after intelligence reports received by the army indicated that insurgents were planning on attacking Buni Gari community in Yobe state.
In another report, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, called on troops of the Nigerian Army to wipe out all fleeing remnants of the Boko Haram in the northeast.
Buratai addressing the troops on the frontlines in Ngamdu, Kaga, Borno state, Buratai said the major task ahead is to flush the terrorists who have been terrorizing and killing innocent and law-abiding Nigerians.
He said: “We must go all out to stop and eliminate these criminals. We must do it now. There is no better time than now."

Meanwhile, the Chinese government has said the first batch of 17 military vehicles purchased by the Nigerian Army from China has arrived in the country.
According to Ukdefencejournal, the vehicles consist of VT-4 main battle tanks and two types of self-propelled howitzers.
The army made this emergency purchase from the Chinese government as part of its strategies to intensify effort in the fight against Boko Haram terrorists in the northern region.
