Boko Haram: Nigerian Army says it has killed 105 insurgents in Yobe state

- The Nigerian Army has disclosed that troops of Sector 2, Operation Lafiya Dole, killed 105 Boko Haram insurgents in Yobe state

The Nigerian Army has disclosed that it has killed 105 Boko Haram insurgents in a battle at Buni Gari, Gujba local government of Yobe state.

Col Sagir Musa, the acting director of army public relations, said the attack on the insurgents was carried out on Saturday evening, April 18, by troops of Sector 2, Operation Lafiya Dole, led by their commander, Brig Gen Lawrence Araba.

The spokesperson in a statement noted that the offensive was carried out after intelligence reports received by the army indicated that insurgents were planning on attacking Buni Gari community in Yobe state.

He said the chief of army staff, Yusuf Buratai, was happy after he was briefed by the commander during his visit to the Field Abulance Logistic Base 3 and Special Forces’ School on Sunday, April 19, Premium Times reports.

The statement noted that Brig Gen Araba informed the chief of army staff that his men recovered arms and ammunition from the terrorists.

In response Buratai promised to continue his support for the troops, charging them to step up momentum and defeat the insurgents within a very short time.

Meanwhile, the Chinese government has said the first batch of 17 military vehicles purchased by the Nigerian Army from China has arrived in the country.

According to Ukdefencejournal, the vehicles consist of VT-4 main battle tanks and two types of self-propelled howitzers.

The Coalition Against Terrorism and Extremism (CATE) said the presence of the chief of army staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, in the region is already yielding successes in less than one week of his relocation.

A press statement released by the national coordinator of CATE, Gabriel Onoja, said there is overwhelming evidence of imminent victory over the remnant insurgents.

Onoja said Buratai's move to the region has provided the much-needed motivation for troops of the Nigerian Army.

He said the relocation of Buratai has yielded the desired results as the troops advance further to put an end to the Boko Haram threat.

According to Onoja, credible information has it that the troops are suffocating the terrorists who are now scampering to safety in neighbouring Chad, Niger and Cameroon.

Still on security, amid renewed commitment to end the insecurity crisis in the southeast region of the country, the Nigeria Air Task Force of the Operation Lafiya Dole said it has killed a score of Boko Haram members in Sambisa forest.

A statement by the troop signed by the coordinator of Defence Media Operations, Major General John Enenche, said logistics facilities of the terrorists were also destroyed during the airstrike operation.

Enenche said the operation was carried out following intelligence report establishing that there were makeshift structures used by the terrorists as logistics base.

The armed force reiterated its commitment towards solving the problems of insecurity in the country and restoring sanity and peace back to the country.
