Coronavirus: PDP mourns Abba Kyari, condoles Buhari, families of COVID-19 victims

- The PDP has sent a condolence message to President Buhari over the death of his chief of staff, Abba Kyari

- The opposition party prayed that the Almighty Allah grants Kyari eternal rest

- The party also prayed for the speedy recovery of COVID-19 patients who are receiving treatment in various isolation centres

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the death of President Muhammadu Buhari's chief of staff, Abba Kyari, who died from COVID-19.

The opposition party in a statement signed by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, on Saturday, April 18, described Kyari's death as depressing and saddening.

The PDP comforts President Buhari, the Kyari family, the government and people of Borno state and the nation at large for this painful loss and prays that the Almighty Allah grants Kyari eternal rest.

The party also commiserated with families of all the victims of COVID-19 pandemic and prayed for the speedy recovery of the sick who are receiving treatment in various isolation centres.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Kyari had been buried in Abuja. He was interred at exactly 11.20am on Saturday at the military cemetery in Abuja’s Gudu neighbourhood amidst tears from family members and supporters.

The men who lowered the remains of Kyari were in full personal protective equipment as required by the ministry of health in the burial of COVID-19 victims.

Meanwhile, Nigeria's former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed condolence over the death of Kyari.

In his reaction, Atiku who was the presidential candidate of the lead opposition party, PDP, in 2019 said on Twitter: "Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. I am saddened by the death of Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari. May Allah SWT comfort his family, forgive his sins and grant him AlJannah Firdaus. Ameen."

Also, the minister of state for labour and employment, Festus Keyamo, has reacted to Kyari's death. Keyamo disclosed on Twitter that he had a discussion with the deceased on Tuesday, March 24.

According to the minister, during the discussion, the late chief of staff told him that his health was fine and that he (Kyari) would faithfully take the treatments.
