Manchester United record signing Paul Pogba has lashed back at one of his greatest critics Graeme Souness, saying he 'doesn't even know who he is'.

The French midfielder has been constantly criticised since his £89 million return back to Old Trafford by the former football superstar turned television pundits.

Give Me Sport reports that the 66-year-old found fault in everything the World Cup winner does - ranging from his hair cuts to his outfits and other areas of his personal affair.

The Red Devils' most expensive signing who has spent more time on the sidelines due to injuries this campaign has now found time to hit back at the former Scottish manager.

I didn’t even know who he was, really,” the World Cup winner said.

"I didn’t even know who he was. I heard he was a great player and stuff like that. I know the face but the name [no].

"Like I said I’m not someone that watches a lot of [punditry], I watch a lot of football but I don’t stay after the game to listen to what they say about ‘Why they did this’ or ‘why they did that’. I like to focus on football."

The former Juventus midfielder believes that most of those criticising him are either clout-chasing or planning to sell their brands.

He further stated that he is not bothered by their comments, adding that he chooses to watch his games again instead of waste time listening to the news on various channels.

"I guess they miss me, I don’t know? I’m not someone that looks always at Sky News. After the games, when I watch it again I watch the game, not the comments," said Pogba.

"When you know football, you don’t need someone to tell you what’s happening. Obviously what I hear when people are saying ‘Paul is doing this…Paul…Paul’ I don’t know.

"One day maybe I will meet them [the critics] and ask them because I really want to know why. I am doing my recovery, I can be somewhere else and I hear something but I’m just doing my recovery, you know?

"It’s good to hear good stuff instead of bad stuff but when you play football, you know yourself. It’s what your manager and team-mates want, the rest is just talk. It’s selling stuff I think."

Legit.ng earlier reported that Paul Pogba has slammed former manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, for allowing him to leave Manchester United for Juventus in 2012.

The French World Cup winner left Old Trafford at age 19 for Allianz Stadium on a free transfer eight years ago.

But the former Red Devils boss blamed the midfielder of cutting corners to seal the deal with the Italian League giants - showing lack of respect for the club.
