COVID-19: How Kano's first case came from Lagos, attended Friday prayers

- The COVID-19 patient in Kano state prior to the detection of the disease had visited three places and probably may have infected many

- The male victim was said to have gone for Friday prayers, visited a private clinic and the quarters where he resides

- Kano state recorded its first index coronavirus case on Saturday, April 11, as Nigeria continues to battle the pandemic

A report by Daily Trust indicates that Kano's index coronavirus case attended prayers at the popular Da’awah Juma’at Mosque on Friday, April 10, which is now become a serious concern to the state government officials.

Recall that the northern state confirmed its first case of coronavirus on Saturday, April 11, after a male victim was discovered on admission at a private clinic in Nassarawa GRA, Kano state.

A source at the clinic speaking to the newspaper publication said that all the staff and patients were evacuated and taken to one of the isolation centers in the state. It was also learned that some neighbors of the clinic were evacuated for medical examination.

The patient who has been identified as a 75-year-old former ambassador was said to have arrived in Kano from Lagos, where he may have likely contracted the virus.

A resident of the areas explained that his sister who was sent on an errand was not allowed entry into her family house.

Domestic workers and members of the victim's immediate family at Giginyu quarters have been evacuated to an isolation center. There was tension and confusion in the community following the discovery of the patient in the area.

Dr Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, the Kano commissioner for health, said health personnel was deployed by the state Task Force Committee on COVID-19 to the three identified areas where the patient visited prior to the confirmation for fumigation.

The three identified places where the patient visited include Giginyu Quarters, where he resides, Da’awah Juma’at Mosque, and the private clinic where he was admitted.

Legit.ng previously reported that officials in Kano state said that the state has recorded its index coronavirus case as Nigeria continues its battle against the global pandemic.

A media aide to the Kano state governor, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, announced this on his Twitter page on Saturday, April 11. According to him, the index case returned from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on the eve of the border closure in the state.

He further stated that all those close to the patient have been tested and are awaiting results, adding that he has moved to the government's isolation centre.

In a related development, Nigerians have been urged by President Buhari to imbibe and live the values of humility, discipline, perseverance, sacrifice, and obedience that Jesus Christ demonstrated during his stay on earth.
