COVID-19: Ekiti discharges second patient, no longer has active coronavirus case

- Another COVID-19 patient in Ekiti state has been discharged after testing negative for the virus

- This brings the number of recoveries in the state to two as the index case has also been discharged

- Governor Fayemi commended the state's medical team but noted that the war against the coronavirus pandemic is not yet finished

The second COVID-19 patient in Ekiti state has recovered from the virus as the person tested negative twice, Governor Kayode Fayemi has disclosed.

The Ekiti state governor who made this known on Twitter on Thursday evening, April 9, added that the patient has been discharged from the state's Infectious Disease Hospital on the same day.

Governor Fayemi expressed appreciation to the medical team that took care of the patient but noted that the war against the coronavirus pandemic is not finished yet and urged people of the state to continue to stay at home.

The tweet: "Our second COVID-19 patient tested negative the second time and was discharged from our Infectious Disease Hospital today. While thanking our team for a job well done, the job is not finished. #StayHomeSaveLives. JKF"

Legit.ng notes that the number of COVID-19 patients who have recovered in Ekiti is now two as the state's index case has also been discharged.

This implies that Ekiti state does not have a current active case of COVID-19.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Thursday, April 9, confirmed 14 new cases of coronavirus infection in Nigeria.

The NCDC disclosed in a tweet that 13 of the new cases were confirmed in Lagos, while one case was detected in Delta state.

The agency stated that so far, 288 confirmed cases of COVID19 have been reported in Nigeria. It said out those cases 51 have been discharged with seven deaths.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Governor Fayemi had relaxed the lockdown placed on the state over coronavirus as workers are now permitted to resume back to work from 6am to 2pm.

Recall that Fayemi on March 29 gave a stay-at-home directive as part of the measures the state government is adopting to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

The governor, in a broadcast, also closed all the borders the state shares with its neighbours.
