- Mario Salerno, a landlord in New York, has waived rent for his tenants for the month of April
- The landlord said that he just wants everybody to be in good health during the pandemic period
- In his note to his tenants, he asked them to provide and take care of their families
It is amazing how some people are going at a great length to help people survive the present coronavirus pandemic and handle economic pressure.
That was what a landlord in Brooklyn, Mario Salerno, did as he waved rent for his 200 tenants, telling them they do not have to bother about paying for the month of April, Daily Mail reports.
The owner of 80 apartments in Williamsburg wrote a note to each of his tenants to inform them about the decision.
It should be noted that even before the generosity became known, some of his tenants were already worried about how they would pay up considering that most of them were out of jobs because of the lockdown.
In an interview with the media, the landlord said: “I told them just relax, don't panic, it's gonna work out.”.
Also worthy of note is that the average rent for a two-bedroom accommodation in the neighborhood is $2,800 (N1,027,600). With what he just did, he could be losing about $224,000 (N82,208,000).
“Just make sure you have food on the table and take care of your loved ones, your family... As for me, God is good to me. I'm successful,” he told them.
One of his tenants, a 29-year-old retail worker, said she was unable to make payment after Governor Andrew Cuomo shut down the state except for essential businesses.
She said she was not expecting that great generosity as she had been thinking of how she would meet the month’s rent.
A 28-year-old personal injury lawyer was another tenant that has taken the landlord up on his offer. He said it is a good form of alleviation.
The landlord further said that his greatest concern is that everyone is in good health.
