Coronavirus: U.S evacuates 376 citizens amid pandemic tension

Amid growing scare of coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, another batch of Americans numbering 376 has departed Nigeria to the United States as the country continues to evacuate its citizens.
The US Embassy in Nigeria made this known in a tweet on Tuesday, April 7, adding that the repatriation flight departed Lagos.
Legit.ng gathers that the flight, which left Nigeria around 10:57 am on Tuesday, is bound for the Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia.
"A U.S. repatriation flight departed Lagos yesterday with 376 American citizens aboard. The Washington Dulles International Airport bound flight was one of a series of repatriation flights for American citizens in Nigeria," a post of the U.S Mission Twitter page read.
Earlier before the evacuation, the U.S Misson said Americans have contacted them requesting assistance to return home as Covid-19 cases escalated in Nigeria.
US Department of State data, as of Tuesday, April 6, when the Virginia-bound plane left Nigeria, read that America has helped to repatriate over 44,000 U.S. citizens from 78 countries since January 29.

In another related news, Legit.ng reported that amid the mounting scare of coronavirus crisis, 67 Nigerian returnees are reported to have been making headway home from Ivory Coast while others are still stranded in Togo as pandemic hits harder.
The Nigerian returnees are reportedly on their way to Ejigbo, headquarters of Ejigbo local government area of Osun state.
The new batch is currently on their way to Nigeria days after the country in partnership with the government of Osun state government successfully managed about 127 returnees who arrived the country from Ivory Coast.
