Buffon has disclosed that he had an unforgettable experience when Cristiano Ronaldo struck with a breathtaking overhead kick in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal against him, SunSport reports.

It was a night Turin rose up to applaud an opponent as the Portuguese striker, who has since moved to Juventus at the start of this season, netted a brace to help his former club Real Madrid to eliminate the Old Lady.

Real went on to defeat Liverpoool 3-1 to clinch the Champions League title for the third consecutive time.

But the major moment of the season was Ronaldo’s bicycle kick against Juve with Buffon in goal, as the home fans were stunned and then forced to applaud the visiting striker.

"After about 25 seconds of normal frustration over the goal I conceded, I thought about what he had done to me, something really great." Buffon said at the Trento Sports Festival.

"I asked him, 'Cristiano, how old are you?' and he said: 'not bad for a 33-year-old, right?'

"In the end we both laughed."

Buffon went on to express his pride at being able to play with Ronaldo at Juventus.

"At the end of my career, I had the chance to play with Cristiano and that's an extra point," he added.

"It's hard to improve if you don't play with the best and I wanted to add him to the list of the great champions I've played with.

"He is an educated boy; you see that by how he behaves with the other teammates.

"We usually take two or three minutes in the training to speak and, for me, it has been a pleasure meeting him."
