COVID-19: Don’t invite Chinese doctors to Nigeria - Dino Melaye tells FG

A former senator, Dino Melaye, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari and the federal government not to invite Chinese doctors to Nigeria for the purposes of battling the COVID-19 pandemic.
The federal government had disclosed that it was expecting a team of medical experts from China to assist Nigerian to handle the coronavirus pandemic.
However, Melaye who faulted the decision of the federal government in a tweet on Tuesday, April 7, stated that Nigerians doctors are handling the disease well.
The former lawmaker said the Chinese doctors should visit countries with escalating cases of coronavirus.
He warned that if there is an outrageous increase in COVID-19 cases in Nigeria due to the arrival of Chineses doctors, Nigerians will hold the federal government and minister of health responsible.
"PMB please stop the invitation of Chinese Doctors to Nigeria. Our Doctors are doing well in the circumstance. Let them go to countries with escalating cases of Corona," Melaye tweeted.
"If they come and there is outrageous increase in cases, we will hold the FG and minister of Health responsible.
In a related report, the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) chapter has warned the federal government that inviting medical experts from China to help in fighting coronavirus pandemic could pose health dangers for the country.
The chairman of the association, Dr Muhammed Adeboye, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, April 4, in Ilorin that the current cases of COVID-19 in the country do not require foreign assistance.

He said Nigeria is not overwhelmed by coronavirus cases and does not need any professional help from any part of the world.
Meanwhile, the United States of America has given over $7million (N2,569,000,000) health and humanitarian funding to Nigerian in the fight coronavirus in the country.
According to US Embassy In Nigeria, the money will go into areas like “risk communication, water and sanitation activities, infection prevention and coordination”.
The US also said that the money will be added to the $8.1 (N2,972,700,000,000) billion that America has given to the country over the past two decades.
