Coronavirus: Fayemi to distribute relief materials to 20,000 households after leaving isolation

- It is a joyous moment in Ekiti state as Governor Kayode Fayemi returned from isolation after 14 days

- The governor also relaxed the curfew he placed on the state over the growing scare of coronavirus pandemic

- Fayemi also announced the distribution of relief package to about 20,000 households in the state

Kayode Fayemi, governor of Ekiti, has relaxed the lockdown placed on the state over coronavirus as workers are now permitted to resume back to work albeit from 6am to 2pm.

Legit.ng recalls that Fayemi on March 29 gave a stay-at-home directive as part of the measures the state government is adopting to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

The governor, in a broadcast, also closed all the borders the state shares with its neighbours.

Addressing the people of the state after emerging from his 14-day isolation on Monday, April 6, Fayemi said the lockdown has been relaxed, Nigerian Tribune reports.

He further explained that relief material will be distributed across 20,000 households in the state at the government house ground in Ado-Ekiti.

He emphasized that the material will be distributed to the vulnerable to cushion the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I just got out of self-isolation this morning and this is the first state function I will perform. I decided to keep away from you in order not to return to self-isolation I had to observe as part of the ways to checkmate the spread of this COVID-19 virus.

“As a responsible government, we deemed it necessary to reach out to the vulnerable ones in our society, despite the financial situation of the state government, which is a direct reflection of the current global recession.

"This first phase of the package will be distributed to at least 20,000 vulnerable households across Ekiti State, while we are hoping to do more as resources permit.

Governor Fayemi warned against sabotage of the relief packages by politicians and similarly enjoined the people of the state to maintain social distancing. He assured that 'with a unity of purpose, we will overcome.'

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Lagos government has assured the people of the state of continuous food supply across all the emergency food markets amid mounting coronavirus scare.

Gbolahan Lawal, Lagos agriculture commissioner, made this known during an exercise event the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base in Ikeja.

According to Lawal, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed that supply of food to the 27 designated coronavirus markets across the state must continue pending the time the government will get over Covid-19.
