- Less than 24 hours after a former lawmaker, Ipoola Omisore, asked Nigerians to help search for a physically challenged boy, he has been found in Ebonyi
- Omisore says apart from a scholarship for the Chiagozie Sunday Nweke, his parents would also be taken care of
- The former lawmaker adds that the young boy will be provided with an artificial leg
Hon Ipoola Omisore, a former member of the Lagos state House of Assembly, has finally found the physically challenged boy who, in the photograph the lawmaker posted earlier, was seen selling sachet water.
His name is Chiagozie Sunday Nweke and the lawmaker said apart from the scholarship, he plans to provide the boy with an artificial leg and pocket money which would be deposited in an account to be opened in his name.
Omisore told Legit.ng that the boy, who supports his movement with crutches while hawking sachet water, was discovered in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state.
“I spoke with his parents and told them of my intention to bring the boy to Lagos and enroll him in my school, but his mother refused. I agreed with them. It is not easy to trust anyone.
"From my discussion with the parents, I got to know that they survive mostly on the sachet water the young boy sells and that he had been doing this diligently not minding his condition. All he wants is to see that they can eat.
“I have therefore asked them to go open an account in the boy’s name because I got over 20 people, some from outside Nigeria, who have volunteered to help him and his parents,” Omisore told Legit.ng.
On how he first saw the boy, the former lawmaker explained that he was just going through Facebook in the evening of Thursday, April 3, when he saw the photograph.
He said he could not move further after seeing the way the boy supported himself with a crutch and with a bowl of sachet water on his head.
“The boy and his parents sleep in an uncompleted building in the heart of Abakaliki and in the midst of plenty. Their story must change. I will visit the family after the lockdown.
“Something told me this is not nice and that I should not just pass by.
“I am not a money bag, but I am already out to gather philanthropic people and organisations to change the story of the boy and his parents.
“That is the spirit and that is what my parents thought us all to do - assist people," he said.
Omisore, who, as a lawmaker, spent many years sponsoring indigent students through scholarship programmes and helping to train artisans, mentioned some notable people who have promised to join him in the project.
Some of them include Otunba Bisi Kolawole, a former commissioner in Ekiti in the administration of Ayodele Fayose, Pastor Femi Arilewola, Otunba Tunde Shodimu, and Ola Omisore, who is resident in Washington, US.
Other Nigerians are: Omolola Olumide, Basirat Hammeed, Soyingbe Sunday, George Idowu, Rosemary Chukwu and some in the media and business industry.
Legit.ng reported that Omisore had asked Nigerians to help locate the young boy who hawks sachet water on the street despite being physically challenged.
The ex-lawmaker took to his official Facebook page to post the picture of the boy, asking Nigerians to share so as to locate the boy.
