Jacintha Kakaide: Tailor produces free masks to fight Covid-19

- Jacintha Kakaide, a tailor in Aba, Abia state, has been producing masks with local materials for street kids

- The tailor said she was moved by the low affording power of many in her community as the price of masks rose to N600 each

- As she gave out to young people, she also sold for a cheap rate of N150 per one for those who wanted it for their families

As the world deals with the shortage of medical materials, most especially face masks, in the fight against Covid-19, an Aba tailor, Jacinthia Kakaide, has come to the rescue.

The noble thing about her effort is that she is producing and giving face masks out for free so that the people of Umuatako Community in Aba can protect themselves against coronavirus.

In speaking with a Daily Trust reporter, Kakaide said she started the production when she realised that not many in her community are buoyant enough to buy a face mask.

The woman said she makes use of ankara material to produce it. Kakiade also added that she has started selling each one for N150.

Before putting the maks out for public use, she said she marinate them in detergent and hot water to make them more effective.

Okechuckwe Lawrence, a member of the community, said he bought a few from her for his family in this pandemic period.
