Coronavirus: Governor Sanwo-Olu tests negative for disease

- The Lagos state government has disclosed that the governor of the state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has tested negative for the coronavirus

- Akin Abayomi, the Lagos state commissioner for health said the governor, his wife, and their immediate family also tested negative for the disease

- The commissioner for health further stated that the aides to the governor and his wife all tested negative for COVID-19

Akin Abayomi, the Lagos state commissioner for health, has disclosed that the governor of the state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has tested negative for the coronavirus infection.

The commissioner for health made the disclosure on Friday, April 3, on twitter.

He said the governor, his wife, and their immediate family, as well as aides all, tested negative for COVID-19.

"I am happy to announce that #COVID19Lagos Incident Commander, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu @jidesanwoolu, the first Lady of Lagos @jokesanwoolu and their immediate family members as well as aides have all tested negative to #COVID19," the commissioner stated.

Abayomi thanked Lagos residents for their concern and support in combating the virus. He also urged citizens to maintain social distancing, alongside other directives of the government.

Governor Sanwo-Olu who confirmed his test result in a post on Facebook on Friday, April 3, said it was important for him to get tested to ensure nothing distracts him from his role of leading Lagos during this period.

"As a responsible leader, it was important that I get tested for #COVID19 to ensure nothing distracts me from my role of leading Lagos during this period. I am happy to announce that my result has returned NEGATIVE. My family and aides are negative as well," the governor said.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 10 new cases of coronavirus infection, taking the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 184.

The NCDC in a tweet on Thursday, April 2, stated seven of the new cases were detected in Lagos state, while three were confirmed in Abuja

The agency said out of the 184 cases recorded so far, 20 people who have been treated for the infection and have been discharged while two have died of the virus.

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state and former governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, have tested negative for COVID-19.

The Nation reports that Governor Obiano made a public appearance on Thursday, April 2, after spending 14 days in self-isolation.

The governor said three more samples of suspected cases had been sent to Irua, Edo state for testing, while the state awaits the results of two samples.

In another report, a Nigerian clergyman, Bishop Isaac Idahosa of the God First Ministry, has decided to make special provisions for members of his church in the face of the biting situation caused by coronavirus.

Legit.ng reports that Bishop Idahosa, whose church is located in the Badore area of Ajah, Lagos state, also asked the members of the congregation to halt payment of offerings.
