Buhari approves appointment of new medical directors in Calabar, Jalingo hospitals

- President Buhari has made two crucial appointments in the health sector amid the coronavirus pandemic

- The president appointed two new medical directors for Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Calabar, Cross River state, and Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, Taraba state

- The new MDs are Dr Bassey Eyo Edet and Dr Aisha Shehu Adamu, respectively, and their appointments took effect from Wednesday, March 25

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of new Medical Directors (MDs) for Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Calabar, Cross River state, and Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, Taraba state.

The new MDs, according to a statement presidential spokesman Femi Adesina on Thursday, April 2, are Dr Bassey Eyo Edet and Dr Aisha Shehu Adamu, respectively.

Legit.ng gathers that Dr Edet hails from Akpabuyo local government area of Cross River state. He graduated from the University of Calabar in 1998.

He is a fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College in Psychiatry, and also a fellow of the National Institute of Management Consultants.

His appointment as Medical Director, for an initial term of four years, takes effect from Wednesday, March 25.

Dr Aisha Shehu Adamu is a consultant physician gastroenterologist/hepatologist. She hails from Karin-Lamido local government area of Taraba state, and graduated from the University of Maiduguri in 1995.

She completed her Residency in 2008, and received the fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College.

Her appointment as Medical Director for an initial term of four years also takes effect from Wednesday, March 25.

Legit.ng notes that the crucial presidential appointments in the health sector were made amid coronavirus pandemic threatening Nigeria and the rest of the world.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, the total number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the country stands at 184 as of Thursday, April 2.

Meanwhile, in light of the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus in Nigeria, President Buhari also met with members of the presidential committee to review the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the nation's economy.

The information was revealed on the official Facebook page of the president on Thursday, April 2.

Legit.ng gathered that the meeting was used by the committee to give Buhari a report on the effect of COVID-19 situation on the lives and livelihoods of Nigerians across the country.

President Buhari noted that as a government, his administration is very mindful of the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak.

In another report, a Nigerian identified as Mustapha Adekunle Ogunsakin has disclosed that the coronavirus emergency relief materials have been received in his area, but expressed displeasure about what was received.

Mustapha took to his Facebook page to make the disclosure on Thursday, April 2.
